Rockledge

Welcome to Rockledge, Florida

Looking for a Home in Rockledge?

Rockledge, named after the ledges of coquina rock on its Indian River Lagoon shore, is Brevard County’s oldest established city. Along the riverside, on its eastern periphery, you’ll find historic homes on large lots filled with shady oak trees. On its western edge along I-95 are newer, subdivisions with affordable, modern homes.

Rockledge has history. Along the riverside, take a walking tour of its historic 1920s Mediterranean-style neighborhoods. A dock at the end of Valencia Street is an out-of-the-way place to fish, catch beautiful views of the lagoon, and relax. Nearby Taylor Park, with its stone-decorated entrance, offers shade trees and trails.

Along Highway US1, visit one of the many established family businesses, like the Alamo Mexican Kitchen, Harvey’s Groves, or Rockledge Gardens. You’ll find delicious, handmade chocolates at Grimaldi Candies, and medicinal and culinary herbs at the eclectic Mrs. Mango & Company. A popular landmark is the Tudor-style Ashley’s Restaurant, originally called Jack’s Tavern in 1933, the subject of ghostly legends.
On the west end is the century-old Rockledge Country Club, the Swiss Inn & Tennis Center—a boutique hotel with swimming pool and clay courts—and the Turtle Creek Golf Club, with its challenging, wooded fairways.

Rockledge is outdoors living. Rockledge Drive, which winds along the Indian River Lagoon, is a favorite cycling and running spot and a thruway for Brevard County’s oldest marathon, the Space Coast Marathon where neighbors in lawn chairs cheer on the runners. Just minutes north of the city is historic Cocoa Village, with its quaint shopping mall, restaurants, and pubs.

Numerous parks fill the city, the largest being the 140-acre Cruickshank Sanctuary, with wildlife observation and hiking on its western edge. The 74-acre Dick Blake Park boasts an outdoor skate park, soccer/multi-use fields, and a paved walking path. Little League is centered at McClarty Park, which also has a community swimming pool. The McKnight Family sports complex has soccer fields, baseball diamonds, racquetball courts, football fields, a jogging trail, and tennis courts. The privately-owned Happy Hooves Farm has a petting zoo, offers pony parties, and sells farm-fresh eggs. Learn to figure skate or play hockey at Brevard’s only ice skating rink, the Space Coast Iceplex. And don’t forget about taking Spot to the Barks and Recreation Dog Park.

Rockledge is a great place to raise your family. It has a 50-officer police force and three strategically placed fire stations, with no more than a three-minute response time. In the heart of the city lies the renowned cardiac care center and 298-bed acute care facility at Wuesthoff Hospital. Rockledge also touts several elementary schools, a middle school, a grade 7-8 magnet science school, and Rockledge High School, with its prestigious Cambridge college prep program. Private schools also abound: Lutheran, Catholic, Christian, and Montessori.

Rockledge’s convenient location near I-95 and US1 make it easy to get to anywhere you need to go, whether it’s in Brevard County, Orlando, or the nearby Kennedy Space Center. When you buy a home in Rockledge, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy scenic, affordable Florida living.
